The Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Middleweight Championship match between the reigning champion Anderson Silva and the number one contender Chael Sonnen slated to be held at UFC 148 has already garnered much interest amongst the fans of the UFC and one person who will be closely following the proceedings is none other than fellow Middleweight fighter Michael Bisping. According to The Count, the match is of immense importance to him as he feels he is extremely close to landing a championship bout for the title depending on who wins the match, as per his comments on ESPN.
Bisping added in that interview with ESPN that he had been in contact with both Dana White, the president of the UFC as well as Joe Silva, the match maker of the UFC and according to both of them, he is close to a championship match but it all depends on who wins the championship match between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen. Bisping stated that according to Silva, if Anderson manages to retain his crown, he will have to wait in the wings for some time for a title shot but if Sonnen manages to overcome the odds and take the crown, he might be announced as the next contender for the UFC Middleweight Championship.
Although nothing has been promised to him in an official manner, Bisping still believes a win for Sonnen would benefit him immensely and has made no secret of whom he would be rooting for in the match.
Bisping and Chael Sonnen went head to head recently and Sonnen just managed to get the better of him via a close decision and that has given him hope that a championship match with Sonnen might just be the opportunity he needed to secure the prestigious title for himself.
