Former Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Middleweight and Light Heavyweight Championship contender Chael Sonnen might have hung up his fighting gloves but that doesn’t mean he will keep quiet whenever there is any hot topic in the discussion.
During a recent appearance as an analyst for ESPN MMA, the Oregon native discussed the respective careers of Welterweight and Middleweight legends Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva. In the aftermath of the failed dope test of the Brazilian, his reputation as the greatest Mixed Martial Artist of all time has been put into doubt.
Sonnen himself faced Anderson twice inside the cage for the UFC Middleweight Championship and despite losing comprehensively on both occasions; he somehow managed to become his greatest adversary. Chael Sonnen believes that the pound for pound category has changed a lot in the last few years and he feels that there is no argument at all about who the best is.
The American Gangster said that it is his opinion and most people should agree with him that Georges St. Pierre is the best fighter the UFC has seen. He said that GSP was ranked as the number one pound for pound fighter in the world. But the UFC called a press conference and said that it was Anderson, UFC boss Dana White argued in his favour and all of a sudden, the media bumped St. Pierre off the top and made Anderson Silva the top fighter.
The former Middleweight said that he knows Anderson is a top fighter and this is not a commentary on him, but he has fought twice against him and worked with Georges St. Pierre and he feels he is in the best position to call it and according to Chael Sonnen, Georges St. Pierre will always be the greatest according to him.
