The third season of The Ultimate Fighter, the flagship reality show of the Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC returns with a matchup between fiery rivals Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen, but this installment will not include one of the biggest legends of the sport, who had to turn down the opportunity to be a part of the show.
The American Gangster had recently revealed that he had sent feelers out to former UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva and asked him participate in the new season of the record breaking show as part of his coaching staff. The two fighters have a long history between them but since their last bout in 2012, it seems that the two have finally buried the hatchet for good.
The American has shown so much respect for Silva following their two year rivalry that he wanted the legendary Brazilian to be a part of his coaching team as he trains and readies a group of young Brazilian fighters, all of whom will be fighting to secure a contract with the UFC on the show but unfortunately for Chael Sonnen, the timing of the show meant that Anderson would not be available to join his team.
The Spider is preparing for a rematch against Chris Weidman as he looks to reclaim the UFC Middleweight Championship that he surrendered earlier this year and he admitted he had been invited by Sonnen for the show. He went on to add that unfortunately, he is not in Brazil at the moment and so, he won’t be able to go there and help out.
But he also wished the best for Chael Sonnen, Wanderlei Silva and the fighters taking part in the show and he believes it will be good for the sport’s overall health, particularly in his native Brazil.
